Artist Info

Cato Ouyang is a New York–based multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, installation, film, and performance. Working with materials ranging from carved wood and stone to found objects, animal parts, and replicas of architectural forms, they investigate how the body, desire, subjugation, myth, and historical formation intertwine—asking what histories and discourses are inscribed on the body, and how the minor subject navigates or resists dominant structures.

Ouyang earned their MFA at Yale University in 2019 and has since presented several solo exhibitions including at No Place Gallery and Lyles and King. Their work is held in prominent collections including the Brooklyn Museum, LACMA, and Nasher Sculpture Center. THAT Co. featured Ouyang in 2021.
