Artist Info

Shuyi Cao is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice traverses sculpture, video, sound, and installation. Based between New York and Shanghai, her work explores the entanglement of natural, technological, and mythological systems to create fluid, hybrid worlds where materials and organisms mutate and coalesce. Her installations often incorporate glass, resin, bio-matter, and digital elements to question perception, transformation, and the porous boundaries between life forms.

Cao has presented work at major institutions including UCCA Clay Museum, China; 11th Biennale nationale de sculpture contemporaine, Quebec; Orange County Museum of Art, California; He Art Museum, Foshan; and Ming Contemporary Art Museum, Shanghai. She is a visiting assistant professor at Pratt Institute and founder of Transmaterial Lab. She has held residencies at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA), New Museum NEW INC, Banff Centre for the Arts, Guangdong Times Museum, and Power Station of Art, Shanghai. THAT Co. featured Cao in 2024.
