OUR HONOREES

For decades, Eugenie Tsai has helped shape New York’s contemporary art landscape while championing generations of artists.

As one of the founding members of Godzilla: Asian American Art Network, Eugenie helped challenge the historic exclusion of Asian American artists from major institutions — including calling attention to their absence from the Whitney Biennial in the early 1990s.

From the Whitney Museum and MoMA PS1 to 17 years as Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the Brooklyn Museum, Eugenie built a career defined by inclusivity and a sharp eye for emerging artists. At the Brooklyn Museum, she championed artists including Mickalene Thomas, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Guadalupe Maravilla, and Oscar Yi Hou early in their careers.

Across decades in New York’s art world, she has helped make space for artists before the rest of the field caught up.

Kelly was one of THAT Co.’s earliest collaborators and supporters, making it especially meaningful to honor her during such an extraordinary year in her career.

This year, she was included in the Whitney Biennial and selected for the Whitney Museum’s Hyundai Terrace Commission, where her monumental work Monument (Altadena) explores memory, transformation, and renewal.

Later this year, her 18-foot sculpture, Migration of Flora, will be unveiled as one of the monumental public artworks anchoring JFK’s New Terminal One.

These milestones feel even more significant following the loss of her Altadena home and studio in the 2025 Eaton Fire — a testament to the resilience and continued evolution of her practice.
