"I had the pleasure of discovering Maia’s work in 2014, and had the honor of organising 3 solo exhibitions of Maia’s works since then. I fell in love with Maia’s work at first sight — the way she is able to incorporate so many facets of her family life and heritage into her work is superb. Maia’s work is also steeped in research, where she re-looks at the Filipino-American war and the archives around that war, reimagining and recontextualizing the dominant colonialist depictions of Filipino culture. She is one of the most important and critical artists out there."
